Other winners in the contest, for all eighth grade students in the area, were James May of St. Peter school, Spring Grove, second prize, and Robert Thomas from St Joseph school, Richmond, third prize. At the dinner honor- ing the youths were: Joe Burg, faithful comptroller of the 4th degree; the Rev. Raymond N. Eipers, Faithful Friar. Thomas, Burg, May, Jack L. Modrich. Faithful Navigator of the 4th degree; and the ReD. Thomas J. Monahan assistant at St. Peter, Spring Grove. It was also an- nounced at the dinner that Burg and Thomas intend to enter the seminary upon graduation. The essay papers were judged by the staff of Marion Central Catholic high school. MULDOON Karen Honl Twelve Bishop Muldoon stu- dents took part in the Illinois Latin District contest 'adminis- tered at the school in March. Results of the contest were sent to the school last week. In the Latin 1V Comprehensive test Judith Anderson, Karen Hon] and Mary Marchiorato received A Superior rating. Superior rat- ing in the Latin 111 Cicero test went to Mary Larson and Fran- ces Shomler while Jacqueline Buterbaugh received an Excel- lent rating. Mary Louise Gas- parini and Karen L. Johnson re- ceived Excellent ratings in the Latin 11 contest. Honors in the first year Latin test went to Harriet McCullough, who re- ceived a Superior rating and Karen CalIea who received an Excellent rating. Laurel Smith received Superior in the Latin 11 test in the District and Sec- tional rating and because of her high score will attend the State Latin Contest at Illinois Wes- leyan University in Blooming- ton, Ill. Mathematics Award Saturday, April 8, eight Mul- dean students took part in the Clarke College Math contest in Dubuque, Iowa. As a result of the contest, Muldoon received a certificate of execellence in mathematics. The girls receiv- ing certificates of merit were Colleen Heath. Barbara He,i Barbara Kleczewski. Irene Log- it. Kathleen Van Ausdall and Ellen Heffran. The Muldoon Educational Assn'. sponsored a dance for the Muldoon and St. Thomas students in the school auditor- ium, Friday, April 21. This was the final dance with the M.E.A. presented for the school year. :Everyone was dressed casually and danced vigorously to more i than 120 popular records. Parents of Muldoon students for the 1961-1962 school year will be having interviews with the principal, Sister Agnes Charles O.P beginning the first week o1 May. They will discuss the stu- dent's curriculum for the next year. Student Council' Election The Flame yearbook staff pro- seated the movie, "Pride and Prejudice," in the school audi- torium, Tuesday, April 24. The senior class had just finishe:! the book by Jane Austen and viewed the movie with great in- terest. A program, conducted by Pat- ricia Stafford, student council president, was presented to the student body April 20. Canal- dates for the student council offices of president and secre- tary were introduced by their campaign managers. The girls delivered their c a m p a i g n speeches with all the vigor of Kennedy and Nixon. Repre- sentatives from all four classes held demonstrations for their favorite. Signs. drums, piano, trumpet, cymbals and the rous- ing cheers of all the students me- companied each demonstration. The candidates for the offices were: president -- Susan Wee~. and Mary Ann Hickey; secre- tary -- Cynthia Page and Mary Misevich. Other Activities The elections were held Mon- day, April 24 and as a result Mary Ann Hickey is Muldoon's student council president for the 1961-62 year and Mary Misevich is the secretary. BOYLAN At the close of the third quar- ter, eight-two students f o u n d places on Boylan high's scholas- I tic honor roll -- one in highest I honors, four in first, twenty in second and fifty-seven in third honars. Leading the three hundred members of Boylan's charter class is Rose aria Bovio with four honor points. William Arenson, Mary Jane Logli. and Stephen Weeg follow closely in first honors with 3.8 Award which their school won in the February subscription contest.
