Pvt. Richard J. Lazzerini, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Lazzer- ini, St. James parish, Rockford, has completed basic training in Indiantown Gap military reserva- tion, Pa. He is a 1948 graduate of St. Thomas high school, Rock- ford. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Brown, St. Patrick's parish, Rockford, receiv- ed a long-distance call from their son in Japan during the holidays. Miss Janet Gallagher, a friend of Pfc. Richard S. Brown, was pres- ent when the family spoke to the soldier. Pfc. Brown graduated from St. Thomas high school in 1948. He enlisted in the air force in 1951. Temporarily he was in Japan and returned to the air base in Pusan, Korea. St. Mary's Guild will meet in the parish hall at Freeport Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 8 p.m. Mrs. John Mur- ray and Mrs. Wayne Cummings are co-chairmen of the entertain- ment program. They ha~,e ~an- nounced that cards will be played after the meeting. Sodality Elects Officers For 1952 Rockford -- Members of St. Ann's sodality, St. Peter's parish, Rockford, have elected officers for 1952. Mrs. J. V. Conboy will again direct the society as president and Mrs. Max Lutz as recording sec- retary. Mrs. Edward Brady was elected vice president and Mrs. C. J. Souse, treasurer. Mrs. Joseph Ertmer directed the sodality's December party. A number of music pupils at St. Peter's school took part in ~ piano recital. Mrs..Russell Henry was chairman of the refreshment com- mittee. The members received special words of commendation from the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Win. J. McMillan, pastor. A potluck luncheon will precede the January meeting of St. Ann's sodality. McBride of Cleveland has been appointed assiqtant na- tional director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. He will work with Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, Auxiliary of New York and the society's national director. His Eminence Francis Cardinal Spellman, Archbishop of New York who is chairman of the society's Episcopal Committee, created the new office to meet the organiza- tion's increased work load. Monsignor McBride has been the director of the Society for the Pro- pagation of the Faith in Cleveland since 1945. He has also visited many of the mission fields. Arch- bishop Edward F. Hoban, Bishop of Cleveland, in regretfully releas- ing Monsignor McBride stated: "Any reluctance on my part to lose his service in the diocese, must yield to the work of the Soci- ety of the World Missions.
